With the rapid integration of reservoir-geomechanics capabilities into the sponsor organizations, there is a need to support effective training in this relatively new technical discipline. Our research program, in combination with the capacity of GeoREF, provides an innovative, world class research environment for graduate students, PDFs, research engineers, and academia. In addition to 18 PhD Students, 8 MSc Students, 6 PDFs, and 20 Undergraduate Students, this program will also provide training to industry in a unique, hands-on setting in the area of reservoir geomechanics for unconventional resource recovery.
Our funded research positions are curently full. Students holding major scholarships, e.g. NSERC or other national scholarships, are urged to apply at any time, and should indicate this in their communication.
Over the course of our program we will be recruiting MSc and PhD students in the field of Geotechnical Engineering. Partial to full research assistantship support is available to students in our group (tuition remission plus incremental salary - please note that student fees are NOT covered). Students holding major scholarships, e.g. NSERC or other national scholarships, are urged to apply at any time, and should indicate this in their communication. NSERC students are eligible for top up scholarships. We accept a combination of Canadian and international students. Students with strong academic qualifications are encouraged to submit formal applications to the University of Alberta. Please ensure that you meet academic and English language prerequisites for your program by reviewing those here http://www.civil.engineering.ualberta.ca/Graduate/HowtoApply/AdmissionRe.... The formal application process can be commenced here: http://www.gradstudies.ualberta.ca/apply/onlineapplication.htm Please look for deadlines and other related information there as well. You may include Dr. Rick Chalaturnyk’s name as a preferred supervisor on your application and are encouraged to send us a note indicating that you have applied and why you are interested in joining our Research Group. All applications to our department that meet U of A Graduate Studies requirements are reviewed. However, due to the high volume of applications and inquiries that we receive it is impossible for us to respond to each of them. We also receive a large number of e-mails requesting acceptance to the program which is administered by FSGR or advice on academic careers which is better addressed by Graduate Student advisors, so please accept our apology if we do not respond to emails not directly related to your formal application.
